Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, Victoria Griffith is a classically inclined soprano whose technique combines the vocal clarity and control of her classical training, with the effervescence and dramatic flair of the gospel music genre. She brings this unique style to even her renditions of contemporary and pop music.
From her childhood days singing along to her father’s guitar strumming, to her time as a choir member at Grambling State University in Louisiana, Victoria developed a skill for using her voice as a conduit of emotion. Her goal, for every performance, is to transport the listener to the place where they feel the music beyond the lyrics.
Victoria is a founding creative member of Gates Praise Music, a gospel label associated with the First Church of the Open Bible, San Fernando. In March 2012, she launched her first EP Cover Album titled, “Gospera”, a fusion of Gospel and Classical music. She has, through these efforts, toured regionally and internationally.
On November 14th 2018, Victoria launched her first full album of twelve songs, entitled “Just for You”. The collection showcases Victoria’s versatility as it takes the listener on a vocal journey through some unexpected classical, contemporary, world and jazz renditions of all-time Christmas favourites. In keeping with her view that charitable commitment is an important usage of her talent, Victoria employed the album launch as a platform to collect non-perishable food items for the needy.
When Victoria is not on the stage or in the studio, she draws restorative and creative energy from the quiet, calm of her practice as licensed massage therapist.
It is a testament to Victoria’s tenacity and love of the artform that she pursues her musical ambitions, despite Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural environment, where a classical style is not the prevailing one. With each performance, she is conscious of her role to minister, uplift, inspire and seeks to leave the audience with a life-changing experience of this underrepresented genre.
